New K-12 Engineering Site Is Must See!
Just a Click Away! K-12 Teachers and Engineering Colleges are reaching out to neighborhood kids! You can now log onto an exciting new collection of hands-on lessons and activities!
After more than two years of planning and a lot of collaborative work among four engineering colleges, the K-12 TeachEngineering (TE) digital library collection funded by NSF has gone live! Engineering college faculty members and students conducting outreach in their communities, as well as K-12 teachers, can access www.TeachEngineering.com, an online digital library that provides hands-on lessons and activities involving science and math concepts for young students. TeachEngineering comes under the umbrella of the National Science Digital Library (NSDL), which has monitored some 70 digital collection projects in the past few years. Teachers will love this site, the way it is organized, and parents can use it for home projects and ideas. Check this one out by clicking Here. To read more about the site and what educators are saying, read this article in Prism Magazine.

The Apple Learning Interchange site is one of my favorites! You’ll find classroom video instructions, a nice selections of topics, and the site is constantly maintained. Click Teacher Tour for a nice cued walk-thru of the site for Elementary students. You’ll find virtual field trips, experiments, digital documentaries, and wonderful lessons and ideas. Need a club idea? I know you’ll find some here!
Be sure and check out the Lewis and Clark: Then and Now lessons. It is updated often as they are recreating their incredible trip that took over 2 years and including science concepts along the way. For instance, you start the journey with several video discussions including how effective the selection of a keelboat was by performing classroom buoyancy experiments! Check it out by clicking Here.
Note that the Apple Learning Interchange site does require Quicktime 6. There is a place on the site where you can download this free multimedia tool if you don’t already have it.
